Unfair matching

So I have been mining for race crates to hopefully get a few extra CC points. When I do s1-4 races, I tend to qualify at the top of the grid, but am constantly matched with people who are all the way at the end. (I am at s7 and have been for a while) Who am I racing against? I genuinely feel bad for the 1-2 win when they have 18-19 at best.
