Why am I so awful at this game?

Playing as Williams right now and I’m doing terribly. I haven’t played this game before so maybe there’s something I’m missing. At the beginning of the season Albon scored points regularly, now we can’t get past P15. I have been upgrading the car and managing strategy well, I thought. Anything beginners often miss that could explain why we became so bad all of a sudden?
