I made this comment on another thread, but felt like it could do well as its own topic. Why has no one done this already?!

Instead of an F1 Licensed game, SOMEONE should just make a non-branded open wheel racing game. Don’t even parody the teams/names. The fact that AC has been out for so long without a sequel and still kept relevant through patches or DLC and community efforts, flies in the face of these yearly iteration clowns. Then they could take some creative license of their own by adding multiple formulae, different engine and aero eras/concepts, actual custom liveries, and real content releases instead of $70 reskins.

I just don’t understand why people are willing to fork over all this cash for games that are barely different from the previous iterations. Companies should release a finished game, update it on a regular basis, and earn their customers’ support and money and a persistent player base. I would gladly spend $150 once for a game that will last even five years and not lose people to the “new one.”

This isn’t even an original idea. There was a football game that essentially did exactly this. All of the sports games should be liberated from licensing monopolies similarly. The NFL, NBA, MLB, and all of the rest and all of their players make money hand over fist outside of the video game industry already, do we really need to be milked at our consoles and computers too? For those who just can’t bear not to have the licensed product and updated rosters, they can keep dumping money into the existing franchises. And of course the modders will do what they always do. But maybe a little competition will even improve these games.
