So while watching the media circus during the annual Mercedes snoozer last weekend in Monaco, I noticed that a big talking point was Mercedes setting the car up differently than what Hamilton wanted and this gave me an idea. In a future F1 game as they try to make career mode more and more realistic every year both in terms of handling and gameplay, and in terms of life off the track, I think the next step is introducing a new setup model. It would be very cool to see a new type of setup model where you as the driver don’t get to directly change major setup options like suspension geometry or ride height, etc. Instead you should have options such as telling your engineer how you feel while driving (understeer, oversteer, nervous rear end over kerbs etc.) and in certain cases you might face dillemas where the AI engineer wants to setup the car differently to your feedback because that would theoretically make the car quicker if you can figure out how to drive it (ie: Hamilton in Monaco 2021). I feel like this would make practice sessions in career mode feel more useful and it would allow you to unlock pace over the weekend similar to how teams operate in real life. Now obviously, this wouldn’t be a change forced upon the user in things like esports or multiplayer to keep the competitive nature as similar as possible and ideally it would be an option similar to the arcade vs simulation modes in career mode where you can choose to play with the standard setup system that we know already or you can use the enhanced model for better realism.
