Bought myself a 1971 f100, 4.9 with a hacked in automatic transmission. And found almost every electrical wire in this truck is brittle and loses its insulation when touched. I’ve got half a mind to rewire the entire truck like a hot rod, aftermarket blinker on the column, aftermarket light switch, toggles and buttons to run everything else. And old school mechanical gauges for oil water voltage and speed. Has anybody done this before? And if so, what does the motor need to run properly?
I’ve got the voltage regulator for the alternator straightened out. And that little computer thing on the driver fender. The motor runs fine and doesn’t burn oil. Just changed lifters because they were plugged but besides that it’s pretty solid for what I paid. I’m not looking for a show truck or even a restoration, i want this thing to drive around backroads and embarrass my wife when I pick her up from work in it. My grandpa had one that looks close enough and I guess this is my tribute to an old Mexican farmer. I’d really appreciate some help
