Conservatives condemn slavery on paper but struggle to condemn those that supported it

Post Body

Here is a statement that should be non controversial: Owning and controlling another human being without their consent is evil, those who engage in it are evil, and those who support it are evil.

Conservatives on paper affirm this. Where it gets murky is the extrapolation part.

When you refer to the Founders, Jonathan Edwards, et al, then all the sudden comes the smorgasbord of excuses "Well it was a different time, it was acceptable back then, etc." Their alleged moral objectivity becomes highly subjective lol.

What's the point of condemning behavior if you can't also condemn those engaging in said behavior? If you can't judge people in the past then when can you judge them?

In any case, here are the people I want to hang out with: those around whom I can say "slavery is abhorrent and anyone who engaged in it supported are also abhorrent should not be considered good people" and not be fazed.
