Older siblings out of the house, who have deconstructed, while your younger siblings at home are still evangelical: how do you navigate topics like bigotry?
My parents are very conservative, and I know that eventually (not out of bad intentions) it is possible any conversation I have with my siblings might make its way back to them.
We don't really talk politics or religion much anyway, so it hasn't come up yet. But I expect that, were I to give my opinion on blm, queer people, etc upon request, my parents would attempt to shut that down. "Don't talk about gay people or race."
It is not my desire to pick needless squabbles with my parents and thus lose access and influence over my family (especially those statistically more likely to change their minds.) I also want to stand up for what is right, especially considering statistically speaking, one of them could turn out to be queer.
How have you navigated this in your own personal lives?
