I used to think that wealthy people are classist and demean middle class and poor people because they were born into wealth and thus less likely to have that empathy. And while that can be true, it's not always the case.
I've noticed circumstances in which people grow up poor, find success in adulthood and lose that empathy. I'm not sure why that is. You would think that if you grew up poor, even if you found success, you would still push for government programs because you know what it's like to have nothing.
But lots of successful people like that have contempt for "lazy" poor people.
