Growing up, I (cishet man) would often hear about (as well as see in film) husbands being forced to sleep on the couch, or at the very least not allowed to sleep in the bedroom after a confrontation with their wife, in which he may have said or done something harmful.
I found it rather odd that a patriarchal marriage would normalize such a practice, unless you argue, like my mentor, that most marriages are complementarian in name only.
I haven't heard of that being done much in younger generations though, even among evangelicals. Compared to older evangelicals, I have found most of my christian friends are relatively progressive. So I'd have to ask them if that's still a thing.
Personally, I'm not married, but I'd like to be someday. But for the life of me I can't imagine treating my wife like that. However upset I am with her, I'm not going to kick her out of her own frigging bedroom. How is that helpful to anyone?
