What are your favorite questions to ask an interviewer to figure out if the company/job will be a good fit?
Post Body

I've got a final round set of interviews coming up with a company I'm really excited for, and I want to fine tune the questions to ask at the end of each of these interviews when they do the usual "And now we'll open things up if you have any questions about the role" section. I'd be particularly interested to hear if y'all have any questions you like to ask for people in specific positions or departments. E.g. what would you ask an executive vs. an engineer on the team vs. a product manager vs. the hiring manager.

Personally some of my favorite go-tos are:

  • What does your release cadence and process look like?
  • How do you handle tech debt? Is this something you try to plan for ahead of time or have to argue for on a case-by-case basis why it's worth the dev time?
  • How comprehensive is your technical and non-technical documentation?
  • What is your testing philosophy?
  • How are projects planned and prioritized? What level of input do non-lead developers have in this process?
  • What's your favorite and least favorite thing about the engineering culture at *company name*?
