Like everyone else on this sub, I have been searching for possible destinations to eventually retire to, and I think Chile seems to be a good option that isn't often discussed. For me, cost of living and climate are the two biggest factors that come into play when making my decision, and for this reason, I am looking particularly at cities along the coast of the Atacama desert (Northern Chile).
In this area the climate doesn't drop much below 40F (~9C) or above 85F(~30C) throughout the year with a relatively stable climate year round. The average temperature generally hovers around 50F (~10C) and 70F (~21C). From the research I have done it appears that someone can survive pretty easily on $12k-$15k (USD) in Santiago, the capital, and presumably most expensive city in the country.
The Chilean government offers a retirement visa as long as you can prove you have enough assets/income to be able to live on.
Has anyone else looked into Chile? Is there something I am unaware of which is why it isn't mentioned as a top destination like Portugal or SEA?
Any additional thoughts, suggestions, or info would be greatly appreciated :)
