I see a lot of posts on advice for living in a particular country, usually an EU nation (Portugal particularly) or SEA, there are very few nations outside of those two regions that get the same amount of love.

I think it would be interesting also to know if there are any countries which you were initially interested in, but due to some obscure law or later discovery/experience made you change your mind.

Has this happened to you? If so, where and why? It may save some of us some precious time and heartache.
