My baby is in the NICU and I’m having to pump every time except for one feeding when I go to the hospital to see him. I think part of my problem is that my flange sizes are a little too big and it’s pulling my areola in as well and it’s causing a little pain and discomfort I’m waiting for my free breast pump to be delivered and it’ll have the correct flange sizes since I now know how to size myself and figured I need 19 mm for one side and 21 mm for the other and the pump I’m currently using both sides are 24mm.
On top of that I have a hard lump on each breast in my armpit area. The thing that makes it so I’m unsure if it is actually clogged ducts or not is there’s no pain associated with them and I haven’t noticed really any inflammation either. Also I’m using hot compresses before and a little bit during my pumping session and I’m massaging them afterwards I’m using could compresses afterwards to help with the nipple pain from the too big flanges and to try and see if it’ll help with the lumps. And I haven’t noticed any drastic change in said lumps.
I am a side sleeper I can not sleep if I’m not on one side or the other but I try to switch which side I sleep on every night to avoid putting more pressure on one side then the other. I also really haven’t noticed a change in my supply I pump regularly every three hours except at night, I’m struggling to wake up after I pump at around 1:45 2 and will sleep usually through every single alarm I set and won’t wake up until around 7:45 8. This morning I slept and extra hour and was so full and leaked so much I had to power pump then hand express and still couldn’t get it all so I pumped a little more after hand expressing for 15 minutes because I had gotten an ounce just hand expressing and it wasn’t showing signs of slowing down.
When I’m pumping every three hours I get around 6 6.5 oz my left side usually has about an ounce more then my left side but every now and then it has about half an ounce less. Also I don’t know how big of a factor this is but my baby is almost a month old and eating around 75-90 mls a time and I’m producing double then that so I know I’m an over supplier right now so I don’t know if that matters or not.
