Got a text. How'd I do?

Post Body

For context, this wasn't a romantic relationship, but we're essentially no contact. I've done everything except block this person from my contacts; we agreed not to give up on the friendship, but I unfriended them on socials anyway, so I can focus on my own life for now.

While grabbing an OTP from my messages, I realized that they left me a text last night, starting with asking how I was and that they left a gift in my mailbox from their cousin (whose son I'm a godfather of.) They also mentioned that they were thinking of starting to pay my share of the stuff I left when I moved out (we'd bought those together and split the costs.)

Ngl, I could use that money, so I replied, saying thanks for the heads-up about the gift, and for them to share their plan regarding the payment. I ignored the 'how are you' portion of the message, it just seemed like a formality, and honestly I don't feel ready to reconnect with them yet anyway.

Just wanted to get that off my chest. I'm proud of myself for not giving in. Feel like that was a reasonable response from my end. Never thought I could get to a point where I wouldn't be desperate to reconnect with them. I'm done chasing and minimizing myself for crumbs.

Funny story: I had a nightmare about them last night. Suddenly, I get this first text from them in months. Coincidence?
