I've read a lot of DLC post talking about the pricing and that you shouldn't preorder it, so I thought I'd come out in defense of DLC.
There are two types of DLC, Content and Fluff.
This is fluff dlc it's a tiny 'Hey thanks for pre-ordering' it's not going to change anything really and typically doesn't add much to your game.
Then there is content you pay for, like many of you seem to object to with Evolve. More bosses, maps, monsters ect...
Here's the thing, games take a ton of money to produce. The company has a choice to make. They can tie a bow around the game and call it done when it's released like a final fantasy game. Here it is, it's done. We've paid our workers, our workers made this, please enjoy.
Or they can create more content, for a price. Because their workers need to be paid. If these extra bosses and character weren't released as DLC, they wouldn't exist at alll. The man hours that went into these extra's would not have been paid to the workers, so it simply wouldn't exist. When a budget is made they decide 'We can pay to have X amount of content on the game. That's what this covers, anything beyond that we need more money.' Since raising the initial cost of the game (Removing all ~50 versions to pay for "forced dlc" is a huge nono) you get the option to pay for it.
Now I get it, paying money sucks. I like my dollars where they are, but when content doesn't exclude you from playing (I'm glaring at your DLC right now Titanfall) it's up to you how you'd like to continue playing. If your happy with the tied up bow, then enjoy and don't worry about the DLC.
Your paying for extra work that wasn't approved in the original budget, simple as that.
