Ash (ED1) Heavy Healing Question

My apologies if this has already been answered.
Does anyone know exactly how Support Ash's healing with heavy attacks work?
Is it the same heal every time? Is it a percentage of the damage you do?
If it's the same heal every time, it would make more sense to use a quicker melee item, but if it's a percentage of damage, obviously damage over speed would be important for the melee weapon.
