Front Door or Back Door ?

Frank and Marie live across the street from Ray and Debra. i always thought that meant across the street from the front of the house. I just don’t understand why they often come in the back door of R&D’s house, the door in the kitchen, instead of walking in the front? If they’re across the street, the front door would be the quickest/easiest way into the home.
I get that sometimes the front door might be locked, but everyone still enters the back door quite often.
