(Noob?) Question: How do you evolve characters?

I know that the Wiki shows the needed evolution items, but I’m confused if those are still used today? My Beryx (2 awakenings, currently level 80) evolved into its 2nd form out of the blue a while back, but I’ve never had or encountered any of the needed evolution items, like the Sakura Branches or the R Dark Evolution Items. I’m pretty sure I didn’t even have the 99000 Gold needed.
