Dealing with downtime after re-subbing

I've been unsubscribed for about 5 months now. I've been thinking about resubscribing recently, wanting to experience Internet Spaceships again.

One thing that's holding me back though, is what I felt last time I re-subbed: having to deal with the downtime in skill training. Essentially regret of not having kept the account active, constantly training new skills. I remember that last time I resubbed, I regretted this very thing so much that I was left with apathy towards the game.

What is your trick, /r/eve? What is your view on re-subbing and dealing with this issue?
