Etsy Ads useless for anyone else?

Granted I was spending the minimum, $1 a day on ads, they barely generated any additional visits and almost no sales. My shop is fairly successful so turning them off doesn’t really effect me anyway. Has anyone had luck on advertising a select few items? Would it be worth running them for some Valentine’s Day items at a low budget? I realized today it is a waste of money for me.
