Canadian sellers: When did you register as a business?

My past year on Etsy was pretty successful, I ended up with a decent 5 digit income from it. It is still just a side hustle to another part time job I have though. I’ve only been at it for a year and a half so I wasn’t sure what to expect from this past year. Obviously on that amount of money I should be paying taxes but had not setup my shop for that yet. At what point did you register as a business? I am looking into it with the new year starting and just weighing benefits as far as write offs and such. Thanks!!
