Hi folks-- for background, I have had a couple of different Etsy stores in the past, we're talking like 10 years ago, so I am posting here to try and get some updated information about what goes into running a store these days as I'm considering re-opening. I'm in the handmade and vintage categories.
Are people with successful stores finding they have to drive traffic to their shop via other means, like Instagram or Twitter, in order to be successful? Or is dedicated product posting and sales on Etsy enough on its own?
Obviously driving traffic to your shop is helpful in any instance, but I want to know if it's something you'd consider not just helpful but necessary. I'm happy to maintain an up-to-date Etsy store and add new listings daily, etc. but honestly, I'd like to avoid having to run yet another Instagram or Twitter or any other social media account to make that store successful-- I have enough social media in my life.
By way of comparison, I have several friends who work on OF. In order to run a successful OF business, one simply must maintain a Twitter account which is used to drive traffic to the OF. There is simply no other way to make this work. So you're running not just the business itself, but a whole other social media campaign as well, which requires a very significant additional amount of work hours to keep it going. That's a situation I'd like to avoid.
