Hi all.
I work for a small shop that also sells handmade cushions and sheepskins on Etsy.
we are based in the EU, and regularly get buyers from the UK.
however I get the feeling Etsy doesn't communicate clearly to the buyers that all purchases made outside the UK are subject to VAT and import charges. I've had a couple of customers get mad at me because they had to pay these extra taxes before delivery ( we use UPS). I've explained that this isn't something we can incorporate into our prices, and that Etsy should have notified them about this.
Since then I started messaging customers in the UK before shipping our items, and while most customers are happy I've told them a large percentage ends up canceling because of the extra costs.
Have any of you run into this problem? and if so, how do you tackle it?
