Cross Charge TP Cost
Post Body

Hello,

I'm almost done with my EOU transparency patch (after forever lol), and I get to Cross Charge when I notice that there's two TP costs. Cross Charge has two versions: one if used alone, and one if used along with Delayed Charge. If used alone, it costs 8TP at all levels, and displays that on the UI in battle. When used along with Delayed Charge, however, the TP cost is increased to 10 at levels 6-9 and 12 at levels 10 yet the skill will still only show the 8 required TP in the battle UI.

This means that you can select the skill to use when you have 8TP, but if the level is high enough and you have Delayed Charge active, you will not be able to perform the attack because you don't have the required TP for the second version of the skill.

.

So this has given me a bit of headache. I want to fix any weird things that go on that I can, such as skill descriptions. And I've already fixed Lightning Stab and Ecstasy (which I will go into more detail on my actual post for the patch) that I will include as optional fixes.

This leaves me with a few options:

  1. I can change the TP Costs on the initial part of the skill so that it correctly displays and asks for the amount of TP that you would be spending for the Combo Attack

  2. I can change the TP on the second version of the skill so that it will always cost 8 regardless of if you're doing the combo attack or not

  3. I can let the player know that it costs more TP to do the combo attack, and show that in the skill information, and leave the costs alone.

.

I'm unsure of what to do, and there's reasons for all of them. Here's some thoughts:

  • In U2, the TP cost is 8 at all levels (even though the damage is less)
  • In EOX, the TP cost scales from 13-16 and the damage is about the same as in U1
  • (Neither of these games have this extra cost mechanic)
  • The TP cost change occurs at levels 6-9, which is not the norm. Skills that change TP cost either change at every level, or only at 5 and 10.
  • In both English and Japanese, the skill makes no mention of this increased cost (granted a lot of skill descriptions aren't great in this game)
  • It's unlikely that ATLUS would intentionally create a scenario where you have enough TP to select the skill, but not be able to use it due to not having the TP to use the skill.
  • People say that they never noticed this, meaning that people were using it with the increased TP costs and were fine with it - even if they weren't aware of it.

.

So I would like to get some input on what the best course of action for this skill would be. My intention is to make it how I think it should be, and not necessarily what I want it to be, i.e. less TP cost is always what people want, but if the skill has a certain cost then that's that.
