ethiopian calendar?

hello! i was playing around with the calendar setting on my computer and i noticed two options: ethiopic calendar and ethiopic calendar (amete alem). does anyone know the difference between the two? the regular ethiopic calendar says the year is 2015 and ERA1 and amete alem says 7515 ERA0. what is the difference and why is the difference there? also! what do the eras mean? how are they measured? thanks! i love learning about these kinds of things!
