So my girlfriend and I started to open up our relationship. What are some of things you guys first struggled with and how did you overcome those struggles together in a beneficial way? Any advice would be helpful.
Having read your comments, it sounds like you and your girlfriend have some communication issues. Communication isn’t just about being able to talk openly, but knowing how to talk to be heard and how to listen to what is being said. It’s a skill in itself.
Having good communication skills are essential to a good relationship, so I would recommend you try to improve this first. I can recommend a couple of resources for you:
If you like reading, the book “Open Deeply” has a good section on communication (as well as presenting a lot of other good useful tools).
And you prefer to get your information through listening, the podcast “Playing with fire” with Joli Hamilton has a good episode on communication from conflict to connection. It’s episode 129 on the Imago Dialogue.
