Connecting pcie splitter to motherboard

Hello I have an old motherboard msi g41m p33 That has 2 pcie slots. I’m trying to connect to one of the slots pcie splitter and it doesn’t work at all. Anyone can help me? The cables are good the pcie slot on the motherboard is good I have tried 2 different splitter and still doesn’t work. Thank you very much
