I have been working with a therapist recently. I have been noticing that while I can objectively call what I went through for what it is, especially the financial abuse, I have trouble really connecting with the idea that I was abused and experienced trauma.
I feel so much guilt. I was so privileged. I was given so much by way of resources and access to education and it is those things that allowed me to eventually be strong enough to leave family behind. Comparative to survivors of physical abuse or sexual abuse it seems like nothing.
I don't feel like I am allowed to be as traumatised as I am from what I experienced. It doesn't make any sense.
It's hard acknowledging the truth and I can't help but compare. I know its their voice telling me that others have it so much worse but oh boy it is ingrained.
