Anyone else part of a culture where estrangement is especially hard?
Post Body

I’m half Filipino and while there’s a lot I like about the culture, the part I don’t like is everyone is in everyone’s business all the time. My grandma took this too far and in addition to being racist (I am half Black, which she is open about hating), has admitted to stalking my family and I in her car. She continued stalking me for months after I slowed down communication with her and would text me with comments like “get anything fun? 🛒” without me telling her I was out.

For people outside this culture, someone described the treatment of elders as “treating them like Kings and Queens” and I find that to be accurate. Everybody just awkwardly laughs off the stuff in the last paragraph and then goes out of their way to accomodate while she makes insane requests and throws tantrums. So I get a lot of grief for cutting my grandma off and going LC/NC with the rest of my family, because it is inconceivable to people.

I am also Black but tend to find that unless they are hyper religious more young Black people are ok cutting off family. But same thing as far as listen to your elders or get yelled at and smacked.
