Hello there, fellow estrangees! As the titles demonstrates, I received an invitation to my cousin’s wedding, who I don’t really have a special relationship with but we grew up together so that’s something. Anyways, my father is attending as well and I genuinely still cannot contain my emotions in his presence, we have a lot of issues, he used to verbally and physically abuse me and although I’m old enough to stand up for myself, which I’ve been doing since my teenage years, I bottled up many emotions throughout the 9 years we’ve been away from one another. And I know for a fact that if he ever decided to say something disrespectful and I had to shut him up, the narrative will be, as always, that I initiated the whole thing because I’m “the ungrateful brat.”

Side note, I had a minor fall out with my cousin since he tried to be a mediator and fix my relationship with my father, which has infuriated me to the fullest because my privacy comes first. I don’t know, I thought that addition was necessary.

Is it acceptable to skip his wedding for my own mental being? Thank you for your time, lovely people.
