We have a special needs child and are looking into estate planning.
I'm unsure how to find some kind of certified estate planner that has experience with special needs children. If this was purely financial planning then I would look for a fiduciary -- but what is the equivalent of that for estate planning?
I know many folks will say we can probably figure it out ourselves by researching the internet and this sub, but the reality is we're out of our depth and don't have a lot of time.
Try the National Association of Estate Planning Councils and look for a chapter near you. They should have a roster of memvers. Members of Estate Planning Councils are voted in by their peers, so in theory you should get someone who knows what they are doing. Any good estate planning lawyer can handle issues related to special needs kids. Here's a link:
