We’re updating our old estate plan, which was originally created online with MetLife Group Legal Plans. We are looking to use a recommended law firm for the new version. However, we’re struggling to get timely appointments with local Estate Planning Attorneys. The one we’ve chosen has been slow to respond, even after we expressed our intent to hire them. During the initial consultation, they addressed us by the wrong last names. Additionally, the legal services agreement they sent had my wife’s middle initial incorrect. We’ve informed them that we won’t sign until the name is corrected. Is it common for estate planning attorneys to be this busy? What is the normal time frame an estate plan, that includes a revocable living trust, should take to complete?
**EDIT**:
I wanted to add that during my impatience for waiting on the attorney's schedule, I contacted one of the corporate trustee's that I'm evaluating as a potential co-trustee to handle the trust administration for my heirs. They strongly advised me against using an online service (Trust & Will, LegalZoom, etc..) for drafting the trust documents for them to follow. They shared multiple stories of things not going well for those who used them. This word of caution coming from a company that handles trust administration as their primary business model, really hit home for me.

Same here. When I started practicing in my city ( smaller city) 20 plus years ago there were probably 25 legitimate top tier estate planning attorneys here. We are down to maybe 7. Of those 7, I think 3 or 4 will retire within the next 5 years. And like you said, good luck finding a new lawyer who wants to go into the field.
