Old nickname invalid?

I've owned eft for a long time (escape from darkness owner since 2019) and have always used the same nickname. I took a couple years break bc my gaming laptop from 2014 couldn't handle it. Got a new PC, downloaded it, logged on, hit the language settings, old nickname that used to work fine popped up without typing it in, I hit next and it tells me "invalid nickname" what gives?
