Chapter 12

They had all three fallen asleep and Ariana woke up first. She slowly slipped out of Neto’s arm and picked up her red dress and looked around for her panties before she found them hiding under the bed. She went back to her room and put away her clothes and stepped into her shower. She wrapped a towel around her body and went to the kitchen and got three cups of coffee and some breakfast. She carried a tray back to Neto’s room.

Neto was still asleep but Kwils had woken up and had taken off her harness and was resting her head on Neto’s shoulder. Ariana brought the tray over and Kwils sat up and took the cup that Ariana motioned to and a plate with a breakfast sandwich. Ariana put the tray down on the dresser, took off her towel and folded it on the dresser and brought her coffee and breakfast sandwich back to the bed and slid in next to Neto. Ariana and Kwils finished their breakfast and Kwils pointed to the door and Ariana nodded. The two naked women got up and left Neto sleeping soundly.

They walked back to their room and Kwils said “I’m going to clean up and get ready for our shift.”

Ariana said “Take your time. I already showered so I will just get dressed and meet you in the kitchen?”

Kwils kissed Ariana and replied “Yes. See you soon.” Kwils stepped into the shower and Ariana got dressed.

Ariana went to the kitchen and fixed herself a cup of the Kefta that Kwils had brought along. She sat down and slowly sipped the warm drink. The minty chocolate flavor was really growing on her. She opened her portable console and went through her messages and saw she had one from Admiral Cansina.

Hi Ariana,

Thank you for your message. I am looking forward to seeing you as well. I wish I could give you more details about why I am joining the cargo fleet. I will tell you everything when we meet in person. Ariana smiled and said “That’s so nice of you to say. When you put it that way, I am so confident in Admiral Cansina that I’m sure she wouldn’t give us a mission that she didn’t think we’d be successful in implementing. And, I’m so proud of you and Neto that I’m sure you both will make us successful in whatever Admiral Cansina has in store for us.”

The next several jumps were uneventful, and the Fortuna finally met up with the cargo fleet. Before the last jump Ariana sat with Kwils and they picked out their new dress uniforms to wear for the formal dinner with Admirals Cansina and Weldon. They both chose the standard Scout jackets and skirts. Kwils’ dress uniform was in the engineering green while Ariana’s was the standard Scout blue with gold command trim. Neto’s dress uniform was a blue suit without the gold trim. They all met once to model their dress uniforms and all agreed that they looked good.

Ariana, Neto and Kwils were all on the bridge as they were hailed by the cargo fleet. They were instructed to dock with the Destroyer Hopper which was Admiral Weldon’s command ship. Ariana said “Lieutenant when we dock the Pilot will guide the Fortuna up next to the Hopper and the technicians aboard the hopper will attach a clamp to our docking bay to join it with one of theirs. Pilot take is in to the Hopper.”

Neto said “Yes ma’am.” He took the Fortuna up the side of the Hopper which was in the lead position of the cargo fleet.

As he got into position the felt the thump of the clamps and Ariana said “Lieutenant, use the docking bay menu and pressurize the docking bay.”

Kwils said “Yes ma’am” and she activated the sequence to push breathable air into the docking bay.

Ariana said “Well done. Let’s go to the Hopper.”

They left the bridge and took the short walk back to the docking bay. On the way Neto said to Kwils “Grab my hand if you get nervous.”

Kwils said “Thank you. I will.”

They arrived at the docking bay and Ariana pressed the communications button on the wall and said “This is Captain Ariana of the Scout ship Fortuna requesting permission to come aboard.”

A male voice replied “Permission granted. Please come through.”

Ariana pressed the button to open the docking bay doors and the three of them walked through and into the large open space of the Hopper’s dock. There were several crewmen there and a short young officer approached them and he said “Welcome aboard the Hopper. I am Lieutenant Warren. The Admirals are waiting to see you. Is there anything you need before I bring you to meet them?”

Ariana said “Thank you Lieutenant. We are ready to see the Admirals. Please take us to them.”

Lieutenant Warren said “Yes ma’am. Please follow me. We will take the lift up to the conference room where they will meet you.” They left the dock area and walked just a short distance down the passageway where they took the lift up several levels. They walked down another short passageway and Lieutenant Warren led them into a small conference room with a round table in the middle. He said “Please make yourselves comfortable. Can I get you anything from the refreshment station?”

Ariana said “Just some water for me.” She turned to Neto and Kwils and asked them “Do you want anything?”

Kwils said “I’d like some water too, please.”

Neto said “Yes, some water would be good.”

Lieutenant Warren went over to the refreshment station and brought back a tray with a pitcher of water and three glasses. He said “I will tell the Admirals that you are here. I’m sure they will be here shortly.” Lieutenant Warren left the room and the three of them sat together at the table with Neto on one side and Kwils on the other.

It was only a few minutes before the conference room door slid open and a man and woman came in followed by Lieutenant Warren. The man was tall, had pale skin and nearly white hair cut short. The woman was nearly as tall, had very tan skin and short brown hair with just a few streaks of gray beginning to show. Ariana stood up and so did Kwils and Neto. Ariana said “Hello Admiral Cansina, Admiral Weldon. Let me introduce my crew. This is Pilot Neto and this is our Kranlian Delegate Lieutenant Kwils.”

Weldon came over to Neto and gave him a firm handshake and said “I have read all of the reports from Captain Ariana. I am very impressed with your progress.”

Neto said “Thank you sir.”

Then Admiral Weldon turned to Kwils, shook her hand and said “Lieutenant it is a pleasure to meet you. I have read the reports from Captain Ariana and the messages from my nephew here. We are very fortunate to have your help on our mission. Thank you very much for your help.”

Kwils took a second and said “Thank you sir. It has been good being able to learn from the Captain and the Pilot.”

Cansina spoke next “Captain, it is good to see you again. I am very pleased to meet you both. I can only echo what Admiral Weldon has just said. Let’s sit together so I can explain why I am here with the convoy.”

The two Admirals sat together and Ariana sat with Neto and Kwils on either side. Lieutenant Warren remained standing taking notes. Cansina continued “We have a new mission for you Captain. It is related to the two aliens in your cargo hold. We want you to take them back to their home system. We know the coordinates don’t match a system but we believe that location will have activity and you can contact them. As we know from the Kranlians that this species has the potential to be hostile this is a highly dangerous mission. Even though we know the potential exists, we cannot send military escorts with you as that might seem like an invasion and unnecessarily escalate things.”

She paused to let them absorb her words and then continued “With just the Fortuna going, it will appear as if you are just bringing the two aliens home. We don’t believe anyone else in the Scouts could handle this other than you and your new Pilot. Lieutenant, we also believe your presence would be invaluable in the mission, but as you are not a member of the Scouts, we cannot order you to participate in this. Captain, what are your thoughts?”

Ariana paused and said “I think that this is an excellent idea. Based on the recording from L’karno and L’teren I think we can be successful in establishing relations with them, and in turn removing them as a threat to Kranlia.”

Cansina said “I’m glad to hear that. Pilot do you have any thoughts?”

Neto swallowed and said “I agree with the Captain. It will be very helpful if we can remove the potential threat to our new allies.”

Cansina then turned to Kwils and said “Lieutenant, do you have any thoughts?”

Kwils looked first and Ariana and then at Neto, and one more time back at Ariana. Finally she spoke “I don’t know enough to say, but if the Captain and the Pilot think it is a good idea, there’s no way I wouldn’t go with them.” Then Kwils reached out and grabbed Neto’s hand which he squeezed lightly.

Cansina smiled at the gesture and spoke again “I’m glad to hear it. We will get you prepared to leave in a few days. The Hopper will be trailing your course by a few jumps, so you can keep me apprised of any developments. Very few members of the Scouts know about this, so do not discuss the details of the mission with anyone. Admiral Weldon will discuss the mission with Kranlian Command when the Supply Fleet arrives there. Admiral, do you have anything to add?”

Admiral Weldon said “No Admiral. Just on a personal note that Neto’s sister is here and waiting for us to eat lunch. I hope Lieutenant Kwils can join us.”

Kwils said “I would like that very much.”

Cansina said “Please go on. The Captain and I have a few more things to discuss.”

Weldon got up and said “It is good to see you again Captain. I will see you at Dinner.” And he left with Neto and Kwils. Cansina came over to sit next to Ariana and said “I’m so sorry I wasn’t able to give you more details until now. There was much discussion on the right way to proceed. I’m glad you agreed on this way. The decision wasn’t unanimous but it turned out that Admiral Weldon can be quite persuasive. He is very proud of his nephew, and his niece for that matter.”

Ariana said “I am very proud of Neto as well. I came close to throwing him out of the airlock on the way to Kranlia, but he has grown so much. Kwils has been a great influence on him.”

Cansina said “I’m glad to hear it. Not all young pilots do so well. Can you take us to see your guests in their stasis chamber?”

Ariana said “Of course Admiral. Let’s go.” Cansina rose, turned to Lieutenant Warren who was still standing nearby and said “Tell Dr Neuth to meet us in the docking area.”

He said “Yes ma’am” and left the room speaking to his communications device.

Cansina said “That’s my sister’s boy. Do you remember meeting him?”

Ariana smiled and said “Oh yes. He was so little the last time I saw him. He was always a serious boy. How is he doing?”

Cansina said “He is still very serious. He is retaking his pilot training so he can get his certification. If he does that I can get him a seat on a ship like the Fortuna. I think it will be good for him.”

Ariana smiled and said “If he has a captain as good as you were, it will be.”

Cansina rose and said “I could say the same for you.” Ariana rose and they went back to the docking area.

After a minute Lieutenant Warren and Dr. Neuth came in. Dr. Neuth was a short stocky Naylorian and came up and said “Captain Ariana, it is a pleasure to see you again. We have all been reading your reports of the two aliens. I am excited to be able to take a look and record as much data as I can.”

Ariana said “It is good to see you again as well. Let us go see them.”

The four of them went through the airlock onto the Fortuna and turned into the cargo bay where the stasis chamber lay with L’karno and L’teren still laying together. Cansina said “Lieutenant, please assist the Doctor. Doctor, I will look forward to your analysis. Captain, let’s leave the Doctor and let him do his work.”

Ariana and Cansina left the cargo bay. Cansina then asked “Do you still use the beach program we liked so much together?”

Ariana smiled and said “Yes, I do. I have made a few modifications though. I’d like to show them to you if you have time.”

Cansina reached over and pulled Ariana in for a kiss and said “I do have time to spend with you. Shall we go and you can show me your new improved beach program?” Ariana did not reply verbally, but instead kissed Cansina back and the two women walked the rest of the way to Ariana’s room.

Tonight at dinner you’re getting a Federation Medal for your work negotiating the Kranlian alliance treaties. It’s supposed to be a surprise, but I thought you needed to know.”

Ariana sat up and said “Thank you for warning me. I guess I will need to make a speech.”

Cansina smiled and said “I know you’ll be great. I should probably go get ready for our dinner. I will see you there.”

Ariana said “Yes, I will wait here and go over to the Hopper with my crew. I really enjoyed seeing you again.”

Cansina got up and said “Yes. I haven’t had this much enjoyment in years. I loved the rainfall simulation on the beach. I will definitely add it to my program.”
