17 million dollars, apparently that's what a life costs, Michael stairs at the screen on the ATM at the corner down from his apartment, he looks at the impressive number and his heart breaks, "com'on let's go old man, it's getting cold!" the woman behind him says as she huffs in frustration "yea ok just hold on a second lady!" Michael snaps back. He put his code in, withdrew just enough for the week and moved on "all yours sweetheart!" he said with attitude. Michael didn't wait for the response he just forgeded his path to the Bodega on the corner and did his weekly shopping, doing his best not to remember Layla, she would've been just 18 now. Layla Grayson was his daughter, so beautiful...so dead, she died two years ago as of last September, now as the winters chill takes hold of the city Michael walks home alone. After shopping he looks up at the new street lights the city put in along his path, "I bet they cost a pretty penny" he said to him self, he crossed the street like a man that doesn't give a shit, a nessary thing to do when walking in this neighborhood, it wasn't great when Layla was alive but definitely better then, then it is now, a lot better, junkies living in boxes in every dark corner, kids running around with drugs, money and guns, and the fucking whores are every where. As he got closer to his building he sees a young girl, skinny, dirty hair, pretty face....so much like her her thought.

Gray walked past the girl, he thought she looked hungry, he stopped and dug in his bag for one of the sandwiches and hands it to her "here, you should eat, it will help with the cold".

She took the food with out expression and began to follow him, a bit confused he stopped and looked at her under one of the pretty new lights "hey, are you ok?" With that said the young girl dropped to her knees and vomited on Michael's shoes then passed out. When she woke she was In a hospital bed, she had wrists and ankle restraints. An IV was pumping some clear fluid into her arm And Michael was sitting in a chair next to her bed asleep.
