A few weekends ago I finished building a wireless Corne with choc keycaps from Typeractive. Was honestly much easier than I thought it would be. Love how small and light the result is (I liked the Typeractive PCBs because they shrunk them slightly since choc keys are smaller than MX, so there's no gap between the keys, and there's an on/off switch as well).
Only downsides so far are:
- I didn't realize how much worse low profile choc would sound than MX keyswitches. I know the ergo crowd puts a much smaller priority on how a keyboard sounds, but with the plastic case and choc pro reds, it sounds a bit like a toy.
- ZMK was pretty easy to get up and running, but it doesn't seem to be working as well as QMK with Karabiner Elements on Mac for doing some OS specific mapping (I could do these in QMK directly but I like that they also apply to my laptop keyboard which I use occasionally).
All in all quite fond but may go back to MX.
I think so, but provided Reddit is reasonable with the pricing (which they promised they would be) it has the potential to be a positive improvement if it gives improved API access and a clear slot for third party apps to exist in.
Oh wow I've been looking for one! You're the best!
The plate's FR4 I just spray painted it with aluminum paint because I didn't like the black color. And underneath the PCB itself? I might but there's not a ton of room
