So Galbatorix discovered the name of the ancient language and I don’t like this:
1) It makes whoever knows this word incredibly overpowered as they can nullify any verbal spells used against them
2) It acts as a plot device for Eragon to remove any spell that Galbatorix has ever placed, thus preventing the Varden from having to deal with any minions Galbatorix might still have out there
I think that Book 5 has been robbed of SOOOO many potentially interesting stories by introducing the name of names. Imagine if Nausada had to figure how to assimilate all of the soldiers (who swore fealty to Galbatorix ) back into society Imagine if Galbatorix had made more “ Lord Barst’s” ( people with magically enhanced powers) out there still magically bound to serve Galbatorix despite his death. That would make for a cool challenge for the leaders of Alagasia to solve. Rather than having the Name of Names be an easy way out
Also it creates a power creep in the series as well. It’s bad enough that now Eragon has like hundreds of Eldunari to draw power from. Now he, Murtagh and Arya have 100% control over spoken spells!!! There ridiculously powerful; thus leaving Paolini-Elda with the challenge of creating a threat big enough fight them. The next big bad guy has to be EVEN STRONGER than Galbatorix in order for them to not get casually destroyed by Eragon
This is just a thought that occurred to me in a recent re-read and I thought I’d share it and get some opinions? Maybe start a discussion
