Obviously, he was 16 when he wrote the first book, so it’s expected that each subsequent book will just get better and better.
I remember reading Inheritance when it first came out and thinking that it was stale, cliché, and the worst out of all of the series. In preparation for Murtagh, I reread all of the books and once again felt extremely dissatisfied with Inheritance.
Do others feel this way, or am I the odd one out on this? If you do feel this way, why do you think it is? I can’t come up with more than “it feels like he didn’t actually have a planned ending** and had no idea what to do once he got there” and “it has a ton of clichés.”
If you don’t feel the same way: same question— why?
*by “ending,” I mean the entire ending, not just him leaving the continent. So, that includes the final battle, the showdown (such that it was) with Galbatorix, Nasuada being chosen to lead, Fírnen bonding to Arya, Arya being chosen queen, *and him leaving the continent.
Sorry if this has been asked before; I just joined the sub. Also, I haven’t read Murtagh yet (#TeacherProblems), so please no spoilers! I’m planning on reading it over Thanksgiving break.
