I have been an avid gym goer for about 5 years now. I know and was always aware, however, that I am not the lean model types that typically frequent the NYC Equinox gyms. I am built like your average powerlifting guy: I've got a bit of a belly, but I can also lift, push, and pull a hell of a lot more than a lot of people. Upon getting a new job that pays me enough that I could treat myself, I decided to finally give it a go and sign up for an Equinox membership. I've been going now for about three weeks and let me tell you: I already regret it. (Especially) the men at these clubs make no attempt at hiding their looks of disgust and will blatantly stare at you when you think you're not looking (I can see you in the mirrors, my guy). I came to this gym thinking I'd be able to have a nice place to workout and pamper myself but I'm already getting high school bully vibes from these places and I cannot believe I'm locked in for 12 months. I've been to many gyms and have never felt like this before. The sort of behavior that these members exhibit is childish at best. I'm not trying to police people's feelings about bigger bodies bc I know that's useless. But my god, at least try to hide it.
