Post Body

Hi all! Obligatory I know next to nothing about horses, but I recently saw a video of a race horse on a track who had just broken both fetlock joints while racing. I was wondering why horses are unable to recover from this injury or injuries of similar nature. Also, I noticed that people worked FAST to get to the horse and euthanize it. They were sprinting and driving vehicles to get to the horse. Why so quickly?

Please know I am asking this not to judge or call into question the care of horses, but simply out of curiosity. I understand it is necessary and the most humane option. I am just wondering why! It was a very tragic video and as a lover of all animals, I felt I wanted to know more. I could have simply googled this, but I enjoy learning directly from others!
