Hello! I have a 4-year-old TB gelding. He's not OTT but was track-broke/bred for it. At the barn I'm boarding at, there are two riding rings; one is a gorgeous covered dressage arena in the middle of the property, which for the most part is a pretty calm, quiet area, and the other is a large grassy jump ring right next to a busy road with cars going 55 MPH, where my gelding is turned out in the field next to it (so he's semi-familiar with the area and will go near the fence by the cars).
For obvious reasons, I mainly do flat work with my TB in the covered arena. However, each time I try to ride/work him in the jump ring, it's like a damn rodeo. I had my second bad fall on him ever in that arena, and he promptly galloped back to the barn and broke his reins. If he ever gets out of my hands, he bolts back to the barn (there's no gate on the arena).
I've tried walking him, letting him hand graze near the cars, hand walking him, lunging him, doing my warmup/cool downs in there, etc., and nothing works; each time we go in, he gets super scared and jumpy, and he won't go towards the back fence where the cars are, and basically runs back to the exit away from them.
I want to start adding in pole work/crossrail work with him but I'm not allowed to move any poles/jumps from the grass ring to the covered, so I'm stuck.
Any advice is super appreciated!!
