So there are two questions I have that are kind of linked through this larger issue.

  1. How to transport a saddle in the car properly.
  2. What to do about a humid/moldy tack area.

So there's a mold problem at the tack area of my barn, but the first time it affected my tack was when I hadn't ridden for 1, max 2 weeks and there was a tiny bit of mold on my saddle and girth.

I took it home to dry and do a proper deep clean and fortunately I have a space at a shed at home (picture 5) where I can keep my saddle.

That leads me to my first question, as at the moment I am transportating my saddle back and forth, having it in the car as shown in picture 1. Even if I use it often enough to not get moldy the humidity in the air can't be good for the leather. I ride two to three times a week, so that's really inconvenient to be honest.

How can I transport my saddle without damaging it? The way the leather wrinkles makes me think that position isn't the best. But it's only like that for 20 to 25 minutes there and 20 to 25 minutes back, so maybe it's fine?

So other than my saddle most of the tack is barely being used, the saddle in picture 3 haven't been used in years. That's why they are so disgustingly bad. To be honest I think the owner should deep clean them and pawn them off for 100 to 200€ or just throw them out.

I haven't seen any mold on the walls or where the hay is, but I am a bit concerned because if there is mold in the hay I'll have to seriously consider moving my mare. I don't know where to though, because I need a 24/7 open barn with regulated feeding times. Plus, my mare is absolutely thriving there.

I talked to the owner (it's a small private barn) and she is open to the idea of getting an air dehumidifier.

I got reusable ones for my locker (picture 4) and put everything I can in there. So the only thing I'll have to haul back and forth is the saddle. I only put it there today, so it remains to be seen how well that'll work.

Obviously, I'd prefer a tack room that's not moldy at all, but at this point all I can do is take care of my own tack.

So yeah, any advice about this situation?
