So does anyone else NOT clip in the winter? We live in a place that gets pretty cold/snowy winters. The advice from the barn manager and my trainer is to let him grow his coat especially as I won’t be riding him in the peak cold months, and likely not to blanket depending on how he adapts. He’s wintered here before without issue. Growing up the horses I rode were all clipped. Any advice on things I should do for him as he gets shaggy and fluffy?
I don’t clip, I live in a very very cold but fairly dry climate. If I were working my horse hard enough all winter to work up a sweat I might think about clipping but as is even if my mare does occasionally get sweaty, she just goes for a nice roll in the snow and goes back to eating her hay like it’s nothing 😂 I love fluffy ponies, their coats do such as amazing job of protecting them.
It’s all about knowing your horse, their workload, and your local climate, see how it goes with his coat left natural and make changes as needed!
