Hey everyone, my horse who I’ve owned for almost 2 years just got diagnosed with a DDFT tear and will need to be rehabbed for the next year. He’s currently on stall rest with 20 mins of hand walking a day. He’s been so amazing and we’ve been cleaning up in the show ring and I had big plans for our next year together and it all came crashing down.
I started a new job and can barely make it out to the barn 2x a week so I pay a good amount to make sure he’s cared for and walked daily but am just so devastated emotionally and financially. I know I owe it to my horse to take care of him but it’s so hard when you can’t ride them and accomplish your goals and have such a big setback.
Praying he makes a full recovery and I’m grateful for my trainer for finding another horse for me to ride in the meantime but I’m overall just so saddened by how hard this sport is and how inaccessible it is for a working middle class person.
Just putting my feelings out there with others who have probably gone through something similar. Sometimes I think about getting out of horses for a while and I never thought that would even cross my mind. 😔
