Disclaimer: I am not responsible for her original hoof condition so please don’t crucify me So I just got a 3 year old quarter horse mare from a bad situation. Her name is Firefly and while green she’s very sweet and curious. I got her with very low expectations and was prepared for her to have any number of unknown issues. I had the vet and farrier come out asap because her hooves were atrocious. Turns out she has what’s called a medial lateral imbalance. Basically her front legs and hooves are twisted. The vet thinks it was a deformity that she was born with that could’ve been corrected fairly easily but was instead worsened by never having farrier care. The farrier isn’t sure if the hooves fucked up the legs or vice versa, but likely some combination. Has anyone had a horse with anything similar? Doesn’t need to be exactly the same since I won’t know exactly what it is until x-rays are done, but I would love to hear other people’s experiences with this type of thing. Were your horses rideable with proper care? What limitations did they have? Was the issue fixed or compensated for? How so? Really anything helps. I’m hoping that she’ll be at least somewhat rideable (with extensive intervention if necessary) though I know she might not be. I’ll love and care for her regardless.
