There’s no way to visually tell a hinny from a mule; put ten of the best mule guys together and none of them would agree. At the end of the day they’re 50/50 genetics from each animal. Behaviour can tell you a lot but there’s short eared mules, long eared hinnys, etc. it’s even been a game at the bishop mule days! Lol
But this guy is a confirmed mule. I know his dam ❤️

I wouldn’t say they’re more complex, just less room for error. Whatever you should do with a horse to get the best results, you really must do with a mule. The principles are more or less the same, it’s just the consistency and boundaries you need to be really diligent with.
They gotta really like you to be good lol.
