New Barn/Trainer-Is this normal?

Post Body

At my last barn, we were super gentle with the horses. Like a clicking noise over a kick to keep them going in a trot gentle. The lesson horses were all ready to work and really I dunno I guess focused?

At my current barn, my trainer hits the horses pretty hard if they don’t want want to pick up their feet, whereas at my other one we’d just move on to a different foot until the horses felt comfortable.

I feel like during a lesson I’m constantly kicking the horse to keep him going. At my last barn, there would be horses having a lazy day but not anything that made it difficult to keep them going at the WALK.

I hesitate to say this, but it’s almost like they’re…afraid of her? They just seem to not want to work, where at my old barn they were excited to come out of the stall.

I’m not even sure if I’m asking a real question here, but does any of this sound typical?
