Just out of curiosity, does anyone else wear their helmet when lunging a horse?
I've had so many people laugh at me for wearing a helmet when lunging a horse (I wear one no matter what horse I'm lunging). The one I rode yesterday is known to buck when I ask for the first canter after he's had some time off (i.e. five days or more).
I lunged him yesterday before I rode and he decided to buck the second I connected the line. He missed my head by less than an inch (heard and felt air move past my ear). I'm 5'8" for reference. Scared me SHITLESS to know if I was two inches to the right, it would have been my head/face.
P.S.βhe was a perfect angel after that and we had a lovely ride.
Depends on the horse! New horse I don't trust or horse I know likes to get his sillies out on the lunge? Absolutely.
My 30 year old mare I'm only lunging for 2 minutes to see how she's moving? Probably not.
