I tried a 6 year old Mare last week and really liked her. She was sound no real concerns. Put a deposit down and scheduled a PPE. The day of the PPE she had lost a shoe. PPE was rescheduled for today, 3 days after the shoe was put back on.
Horse is 5 hours away so I couldn't be there for the PPE. Vet called and said she flexed a 1/5 in both hind legs and a 2/5 on the front leg that she lost the shoe on. The owners sent me jog and lunging videos. I didn't see anything on the straight jog, but on the lunging she takes a few bobble steps. It isn't a consistent lameness, but definitely something there. We did front feet xrays and xrays of that knee. I won't have the results until tomorrow.
I'm really torn I like this mare a lot. This vet is apparently pretty harsh on his PPEs/lameness evaluations. I don't want to pass on her just due to some foot soreness, but i also dont want to buy something already has issues. I've had some terrible luck with past horses and soundness issues. I just want to play around in the 2' to 2'6 ring and get through a whole show season.
