Hello all, Do vets need consent from a horse's owner to do anything? In the past, when the vet was coming to where I board, all of the boarders were made aware that the appointment was scheduled for the vet to come out to the farm for shots. Each boarder was then required to call the vet and have their horse added to the appointment, which I figured was for consent and legal purposes. I've been at this barn for 12 or more years and this has always been the case. It was never assumed a horse should be seen and the owner of the barn wasn't going to hold the horse for the vet unless the boarder reached out to say they wouldn't be there and asked if she could. Yesterday, the vet was at the barn, I was not told and I did not make an appointment (as I did not know they were coming). Yet, my horse was treated anyways. Now, I need to reach out to them to obtain a bill. Was this unethical? While I agree that my horse should have his shots, I feel that I should have been made aware and should have been there. What do you all think?
